There are a few rough patches, but on the whole I was pleasantly surprised with this novel and cannot wait for the second installment of the Kingmaker Chronicles. Loosely based on Greek mythology, gods and goddesses walk the earth alongside mortal beings and magic is taken for granted. I am a sucker for a great fantasy story with solid world-building and a protagonist I can empathize with, and Bouchet delivers on all counts. You know when you start a book, get about 25% into it and your spine starts to tingle and you KNOW it’s going to be big because it has already sucked you in to the point that you are oblivious to all of your surroundings? Yeah…début author Amanda Bouchet did that to me with her first published work, A Promise of Fire. But she left a lot to the imagination in her usual black pantsuit and boring flat loafers. She had green eyes, and from the little bit he could see, a nice body. She was probably in her thirties, with wavy blond hair that she constantly tucked behind her right ear. She had shown an impressive amount of patience.īefore agreeing to these sessions, Trevor had researched all of the doctors in the provider directory. She sat across from him in her oversized leather chair, writing diligently in her notepad. In fact, the only thing worth looking at was Dr. With nothing but empty beige walls and a potted rubber tree in one corner, the surroundings couldn’t be more mind-numbing. Trevor scanned the small square room for the hundredth time. If she touched, I don’t know…a bar of soap, she’d still have to use a kleenex.” Every time she touched something she had to use a kleenex. This was their fifth session together, but the first time he had spoken a word. The doctor narrowed her eyes at him, “Can you elaborate for me?” “At our first session, you asked me what I remembered about my mom. Fisher looked up, a hint of surprise on her face, “Do you need a tissue?” “Kleenex,” he said, ending the silence.ĭr. Trevor McNulty cleared his throat and leaned forward in his chair. I absolutely adored it and highly recommend it to all romantic fantasy fans out there.Ĭheck out this book and more of H.L. Realistic family relationships and a brilliant insight into mental/emotional health topped by a love strong enough to melt the hardest heart. And don't even let me get started on the wringer poor Kay is put through!! Absolutely heart-breaking!!įabulous worldbuilding and an out-of-this-world plot, wonderfully fleshed out characters with a great dynamic and feelings that leap from the page. The villains were positively horrific and the dark magic downright chilling. Her readiness to kill to achieve her purpose somewhat diminished her in my eyes. My heart broke for Kay and Olyn was such a sweetheart!! I came to love them both so much!! Arynne on the other hand, I didn't like quite as much anymore. The pace is upped and suspense is thrilling while the characters need to face even harder challenges, with stakes higher than ever before. Available for the first time in a full series omnibus, the Green Princess Trilogy will sweep you into a world of star. This second instalment in The Ice and Fate duology is even more darker and intense than the first. It's hard to write a review for a second in series without spoiling so I'll keep mine short.

I referenced their song "Take It Easy" in "On the Island." I'm also a huge REO Speedwagon fan. If we're talking 70s or 80s, it's definitely The Eagles.
